Income Tax Planner — Tax Year 2026-27
Tax year 2026-27 is the first under the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the regime choice still has to be made one person at a time. The answer depends on the whole picture — salary and HRA, a home loan, interest and dividends, business income, capital gains taxed at their own rates — and a family often has one person for whom the old regime still pays and another for whom it never will. This planner computes both regimes line by line for up to four people, shows how much extra deduction it would take for the old regime to win, and lays out the advance-tax instalments that follow from the answer.

What it does
Inputs has one column per person: profile, salary and allowances, house property, interest, dividends, business income, capital gains, investments and deductions, and tax already deducted or paid. Computation then works out each person’s tax under both regimes, line by line: gross total income, the HRA exemption with the eight-city rule, the standard deduction, deductions under the old regime, tax at slab rates, capital gains at their special rates with the basic-exemption adjustment, the rebate with marginal relief — which does not reach tax on capital gains at special rates — and cess. The Dashboard picks a person and states the better regime, the saving, the balance payable after TDS, TCS and advance tax, and the next instalment. Regime Planner shows, for every person at once, how much room is left in the old-regime baskets and what the old-regime tax would be with ₹25,000, ₹50,000 or ₹1,00,000 more in deductions. Advance Tax lays out the instalments due on 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March with what has been paid, the shortfall and an interest estimate. Key Dates lists the year’s deadlines; Section Map finds the new section for an old one; Rates & Rules holds every slab, limit and rate with its section and source, editable.

Example workflow
The EXAMPLE file plans a fictional family of four. For the main earner, whose income under the better regime is ₹23,80,000, the old regime would cost ₹3,20,169 and the new one ₹2,67,410, so the new regime saves ₹52,759 a year even after giving up ₹3,24,000 of HRA exemption and ₹2,67,000 of deductions. After TDS the balance payable is ₹74,410, which makes advance tax compulsory, and the next instalment is ₹55,808 by 15 December 2026. The Regime Planner puts all four side by side: the new regime is better for each of them, by ₹44,720 for one and by ₹1,29,979 for another, and the what-if rows show that even ₹1,00,000 of extra deductions would not reverse the answer for anyone in this family.
