What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work the same way for the purposes of this policy. Some are needed for a site to work; others measure traffic or serve advertising.
What this site uses
Preferences
The site remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, so the page does not flash the wrong colours on your next visit. That choice stays in your browser and is not used to track you.
Security
Cloudflare, which hosts the site, can set a cookie named cf_clearance after it checks that a visit comes from a person rather than an automated tool. It lets later pages load without the same check, lasts only for the period Cloudflare's security settings allow, and is not used for analytics or advertising. Cloudflare describes it in Cloudflare cookies.
Analytics
- Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without setting any cookies and without identifying individual visitors.
- Google Analytics 4 sets first-party cookies named
_gaand_ga_followed by an ID. They tell one visitor from another and one visit from the next, so the site can see which pages are read. By default they last up to two years.
Measuring my own Google ads
My Google Analytics property is linked to my Google Ads account, so I can measure the ads I run on Google for my own products. Because of that link, the Google Analytics tag also sends visit data to stats.g.doubleclick.net, www.google.com and your country's Google domain (www.google.co.in in India). Where your browser allows third-party cookies, those requests carry Google's own advertising cookies, such as IDE, and Google matches them with the _ga cookie. Google sets and controls those cookies, not this site, and describes each one in How Google uses cookies. Google signals and user-provided data collection are switched off.
Advertising
No ads run on the site at the moment. When advertising is switched on, ads will be served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet, to measure how those ads perform, and to avoid showing you the same ad too often.

Ads are always labelled and never disguised as editorial content — see the Advertising Disclosure.
Consent
The site is written for readers in India and does not show a cookie consent banner. Where a visitor's country requires consent before advertising cookies are used, as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google applies its own consent rules to the ads it serves there, which can mean fewer, limited or non-personalised ads. The controls below work wherever you are.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics does not set the _ga cookies unless you agree. Until you do, it measures visits without storing anything on your device.
How to control cookies
- Browser settings: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, for all sites or just this one, and block third-party cookies, which stops Google reading its advertising cookies on the requests above. The articles, calculators and templates keep working if you do.
- Google Analytics: install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. It also stops the Google Ads measurement requests.
- Personalised ads: turn them off in Google's My Ad Center, or opt out of many third-party vendors at aboutads.info, through the NAI's opt-out page or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove ads; it only makes them less relevant.
Changes to this policy
When the cookies used on the site change — for example, when advertising is switched on — this page and its “Last updated” date change with it.
